Conjure up

To create an image or a picture in one’s mind.


Constituent

Being a part of a whole; a component part of something. See also ‘component’.


Content

The material that is contained or dealt with in a piece of writing.



Contest

 To set about to disprove or show that a statement is inaccurate, wrong.


Context

The setting within which an event, statement or idea is located, and in terms of which it can be fully understood.



Convey

To communicate a message or information.


Core

The part of something that is central to its existence, to what it is.



Criterion

A principle or standard by which something may be evaluated or judged. Plural – criteria.


Cue

A piece of information that alerts the reader to the meaning of a broader idea.

Deductive reasoning

“If something is true for a class of things in general, it is also true for individual members of that class”. See the opposite ‘inductive reasoning’
